Uganda Airlines crowned Africa’s youngest fleet for the fifth consecutive time

Uganda Airlines has once again cemented its reputation as the operator of Africa’s youngest fleet after winning the ch-aviation Africa’s Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award for a record fifth consecutive year in 2025. The airline, which boasts a fleet with an average age of 5.12 years, outperformed strong contenders such as Air Tanzania, Jambojet, Air Cairo, and Air Austral to claim the top spot.

The national carrier’s fleet consists of two factory-delivered Airbus A330-800s and four Bombardier CRJ-900s. Additionally, Uganda Airlines operates a leased Airbus A320-200 CEO (Current Engine Option), reinforcing its commitment to modernizing its operations.

Young aircraft fleets are widely recognized for their advantages, including enhanced safety, operational efficiency, and reduced environmental impact. Since launching commercial operations in 2019, Uganda Airlines has significantly contributed to the growth of Entebbe International Airport, expanding its network to 17 destinations across 13 countries.

On the global stage, Taiwan-based Starlux Airlines emerged as the airline with the youngest fleet both globally and continentally for the third consecutive year. Founded in 2017, Starlux operates a fleet of 26 Airbus aircraft with an average age of just 2.62 years, serving 31 routes worldwide.

The ch-aviation Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award recognizes airlines that prioritize investment in modern, fuel-efficient fleets. New-generation aircraft play a crucial role in lowering CO2 emissions, enhancing fuel efficiency, and supporting sustainable aviation practices.

Unlike other industry awards, this recognition is based solely on aircraft data, ensuring an objective evaluation free from jury influence or subjective parameters. The award highlights Uganda Airlines’ commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility, reinforcing its position as a leading African carrier.

With Uganda Airlines consistently maintaining a young fleet, the airline remains well-positioned to continue its trajectory of growth and excellence. As the aviation industry pushes for greater sustainability, Uganda Airlines’ investment in modern aircraft demonstrates a forward-thinking approach that will benefit passengers, the environment, and the broader industry for years to come.
